When Did Peasant Surnames in the Duchy of Cieszyn Take Shape, and How Did They Evolve? Case of the \u015ami\u0142owski family<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this article is to reconstruct the history of the first generations of the \u015ami\u0142owski family up to the beginning of the 18th century. A compilation of data on their family and property connections would not necessarily take the form of a scientific article, but a wider circle of researchers should be interested in the question of the surnames (and nicknames) used by the members of the family described. It makes it possible to date the formation of peasant surnames in the Duchy of Cieszyn to the first half of the 16th century at the latest, to observe their instability during the 17th century and to find the rules governing this instability, and to see in the \u015ami\u0142owskis one of the oldest families still living in this part of Silesia.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The Mining and Metallurgical Association in Ostrava was a specific educational corporation focused on technical education among representatives of the technical intelligentsia in the Ostrava region from the end of the 19th Century until World War II, focusing primarily on managers of large companies and officials of the specialized Mining Office. The study attempts to reconstruct the association\u2019s activities and highlight the contribution of individual members to its professional profile in terms of the importance of the topics covered. The research is based mainly on archival agenda of the association (unfortunately preserved only for the period prior\nto the Great War) and articles in newspapers and journals of the period. The topic is analysed in wider context of technical education and public awareness in the industrial agglomeration of Ostrava.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

This study focuses on the development of the postal network and postal services in Opava and the Opava region shortly after the establishment of Czechoslovakia and in the 1920s, when the administrative district of the postal headquarters in Opava was newly formed. The study maps the network of various types of postal services in Opava and the Opava region (post offices, postal agencies, post offices), noting in particular the expansion and partial innovations of postal services (road transport, train mail, telephone, radio, modernization of postal buildings and their equipment). It also touches on some nationality aspects of postal operations in ethnically mixed areas.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

This paper focuses on cases of application of the Law on the Protection of the Republic with a focus on the Hlu\u010d\u00edn region in 1923\u20131938. The introductory part describes the related legislation from the times of the Habsburg monarchy, which was adopted by the newly established Czechoslovak Republic, although some paragraphs dealing with the protection of the emperor and his family lost their significance. It then describes the circumstances that led to the approval of the Law on the Protection of the Republic and provides a brief analysis of several of its most important sections. The main part of the work describes selected criminal offenses committed in the Hlu\u010d\u00edn region against sections punishing insulting the President (Section 11) and disturbing the peace and defaming the Republic (Section 14).<\/h5>\n\n\n
